To Serve

Concern for the common good may be considered a generic characteristic of Social Studies teachers. After all, it’s very difficult to teach about good citizenship and leadership if one doesn’t even truly believe or practice them. It requires a lot of talent to show a fake concern, for most of the people at least. So for a Social Studies teacher like me it’s a wonderful surprise if at least one of my students in class shares the same concern for the common good... so concerned for the common good of the Filipinos that to be a president is a desired goal. They really fascinate me because they may not realize in their present knowledge how difficult it is to serve as a president but at least the spirit of service is there. I believe for someone to dream of becoming a president a great desire to serve the people in the greatest way must be in the heart.

But since 2010 elections is coming and televisions are filled with political ads branded as “infomercials” of those who already want to campaign for their presidential bid, I wonder if what those politicians want is to truly serve the Filipino people. I need not...

THE NEW DIVIDE

Both KASAMA and PIGLAS are bracing for the CSA Freshmen Council and High School Council Presidential elections. Come election day, we will know which party had the greatest impact on the electorate. Consequently, the electorate should look beyond personalities and consider the party platform, size up the competence of candidates and adhere to clean and healthy partisan politics. Kudos to the candidates, the volunteers, and the conveners.

WHAT'S IN A NAME? (BOBLIBSDEVIL'SADVOC8)

we have been talking for months about influenza A(H1N1). we have seen the death toll, we have heard of the precautionary measures taken, we have had enough of the rising statistics of casualties. quarantine procedures, suspension of classes, absence with leave and more. have you ever wonder why influenza A is called/labeled H1N1? could it have been H2N2 or H3N1 or any number combination? why H1N1? i found out that this label refers to the two proteins found in the surface of the virus. there are 16 subtypes/strains of H virus and 9 subtypes/strains of N virus found in birds. there are only H1,2 and 3 and N1 and 2 commonly found in humans. the first strain of virus is found in human. so what's in a name? H refers to the hemagglutinin and N refers to the neuraminidase. (could it have been the blood and the nerves?) you follow this up...
